Start from Scratch

I woke up with nothing. Nothing in my mind that I felt compelled to say. I guess I'm starting from scratch.

Just the thought of not having a thought stirs up feelings of vulnerability. It forces me to think:

Do I have anything to contribute?

Can I really put into words who I am, what I want or where I want to be?

Or can I paint a picture of my world, and what I revolve around?

Gasp...

I sat here staring feverishly at this page at six in the morning, frustrated that I didn't awake with a thought in mind; I couldn't complete the message, and here I am finally finishing at eleven thirty, but the struggle was amazing and the end result magnificent, or you can be the judge of that.

I often wonder, Can I make a difference today? I believe that this is no longer a matter of CAN, this is a matter of WILL. It's not about WHAT anymore; now you just have to decide WHEN?

That's the bigger question.

Many of us feel the same way, and many of us wonder: Can we do it? Can we actually create? Can we be of any value to others? Well, I happen to know that we can, but again WILL WE?...

We are the blank canvasses of the world. We are the blank pages in the book of life. A blank space invites opportunity, it helps others reflect; it is a safe place. When we start from scratch there are no judgments or marks on that empty space, it is a safe place to start, a place to express your colors and style from experience. Those colors and textures are the people, the challenges, the joys and blessings that surround our life. If people are the canvasses, then what kind of mark are we leaving in their space?

Let's be honest, as human beings we have a hard time not leaving our mark on things. Graffiti, for example is generally a signature indicating ownership,a way of establishing boundaries in a territory, which provokes fear over a population. The contrast to graffiti is paint, it cleans things up nicely, depending on the colors chosen, it can really brighten up a place, it can also evoke many emotions. When dealing with people, do we see them as a canvas, a place where we can leave a little piece of our heart as we come across their lives? What experience are we leaving? Will it be graffiti that someone else will have to paint over? Or will we leave a colorful array of oil pastels rich in texture or stunning streaks of watercolors, or fading forms of chalk? Or if it's a story, what will they remember us by? What kind of legacy are we leaving in this beautiful world? What are we inviting others to feel about themselves? Because when they look in the mirror, all they see is the aftermath of that experience.

“All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.” Remember though, the longer we live on this Planet the more textured and colored our canvasses become and our short stories become novels and in turn we leave our mark, our place; there will never be another piece of art quite like ours. We are unique in every way. What are we reflecting today? The ugly experiences of the world, or are we filled with the colorful spectrum of enriching experiences. Give yourself permission to give bits of color and receive bits of color, to share bit of knowledge and receive bits of knowledge that your blank pages may be filled with the love that is shared and received daily.

  1. It's so funny; I so often feel this way. But you're able to put in words what is but an abstract thought. So, yes, I will give and receive bits of color in whatever capacity I can- hard as it may be at times -because, as with anything worthwhile, it leaves us vulnerable. ♥

    1. I totally agree. When the thought came to my mind, I was overjoyed! I actually learned something. I love when that happens.
